The Philosophy of the Plastic Bag

Title: The Drawer of Infinite Bags

In almost every household, there is a designated drawer or a larger bag stuffed with hundreds of smaller plastic bags. We never throw them away. We hoard them with a religious dedication. Why? Because we are obsessed with the concept of "Just in Case."

This drawer is not just about recycling; it is a psychological map of our insecurities. It represents our deep-seated fear of running out. It represents our middle-class anxiety that the future is uncertain, and a free plastic bag might be the only safety net we have on a rainy day.

We apply this logic to emotions too. We hoard grudges. We hoard "sorry's." We save the good crockery for a special guest who never comes. We save the expensive perfume for a date that isn't on the calendar. We live our lives in preservation mode, saving everything for a future that is not guaranteed, while the present moment gathers dust like that bag in the drawer.

Author's Note

Security is important, but hoarding—whether it is bags or emotions—clutters our lives. Use the good things today. The special occasion is now.
