Title: The Death of the Hobby
We live in an era where doing something just for fun is considered a waste of time. If you enjoy baking, people ask, "When are you opening a bakery?" If you like painting, they ask, "Do you sell these online?" If you enjoy writing, they say, "You should start a paid newsletter."
We have killed the "Hobby" and replaced it with the "Side Hustle." We have convinced ourselves that every minute of our lives must be monetized. We cannot just relax; we must be productive. We cannot just play; we must perform. This mindset is dangerous because it turns our sanctuaries into workplaces.
When you attach a price tag to your passion, the joy often evaporates. You stop creating what you love and start creating what the market wants. The pressure to succeed replaces the pleasure of creation. We need to reclaim the right to be amateurs. We need to do things badly, simply because we enjoy doing them. Sing off-key, paint messy pictures, write bad poetry. Not everything needs to be a business. Some things are just for the soul.
